Advertising to women. the big niche
In a 2009 article The Harvard Business Review said,
“Women now drive the world economy. Globally, they control about $20 trillion in annual consumer
spending. In aggregate, women represent a growth market bigger than China and India combined. Given those numbers, it would be foolish to ignore or underestimate the
female consumer.”
The She-conomy Marketing to Women Report supported the
increasing power of the female economy in the USA, with women
accounting for over 80% of all consumer spending. And yet in one
survey from that report 91% of women said that
advertisers didn't understand them.
Although men and women fundamentally think, speak and behave
entirely differently (think Venus and Mars) advertisers continue to
communicate with them in the same manner. So how surprising is it
really that many brands are missing the mark with women.
